After countless hours crammed in my tiny car with a comical assortment of surfcraft strapped to the roof, I sat down with Cyrus and Ryan for an interview in my living room.
Joe Conway: How’s this trip to Maine treating you?
Cyrus Sutton: It’s been killer. I’ve never really been to the Northeast outside of an urban setting, it reminds me of the Pacific Northwest meets something out of a book I’ve seen on old beach houses. The waves I’ve gotten, which I know are atypical, are something I would expect in Chile or somewhere like that.
JC: So you had the show scheduled and just happened to run right into the best swell in five years?
Ryan Tatar: Cyrus and I have been talking about coming to Maine for a while, ever since we last hung out. We decided it would be cool to do an art show at Corduroy, the surf shop/gallery here in Portland, and we also just wanted to search for some waves, check out the coastline and get some photos—
